Narcissism Anonymous

Narcissistic personality disorder:  NPD is a mental health condition in which people have an over inflated sense of their own importance. They need and seek attention and want people to admire them. People with NPD may be condescending, deceitful, arrogant, braggadocious, impatient, have substance abuse problems and lack understanding, infidelity, jealousy or care about the feelings of others.  But behind their mask of extreme confidence, they are not sure of themselves and are easily upset by the slightest criticisms.

NPD causes problems in relationships, work, school and financial matters.  People with NPD may be unhappy and disappointed when they are not given favors or the admiration that they believe they deserve. They may find their relationships troubled and unfulfilling, and other people may not enjoy being around them.

 NPD treatment consists of talk therapy / psychotherapy.

NPD is thought to be more prevalent in males than females, may begin in the teens or early adulthood. Some children may show traits of narcissism, but this is often typical for their age and doesn't mean they'll go on to develop "narcissistic personality disorder NPD".
